Plans to Make a Router Table - What Are Great Plans?

This article explains a few things about furniture, and if you're interested, then this is worth reading, because you can never tell what you don't know.

If you're looking for plans to make a router table, it can be a little overwhelming. First of all, building your own table is quite an undertaking, so you want to make sure you have a least some woodworking skill in order to make a sturdy final product. Any structural mistake in your router table could mean a dangerous mistake with a router later, so error on the side of caution when building it. The first thing you have to consider is what type of router table you want.

If your furniture facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don't let important furniture information slip by you.

There are 3 main types of router table: table top, portable, and stand alone. The stores tend to mostly sell standalone, because they cost more and the store makes more money. Personally, I use the tabletop version more. That way, sturdiness is less of a concern. I know the table is sturdy, so I'm set. That being said, it really depends on how large the material you work with is. If it's anything longer than a few feet, build a standalone table.

The second thing to consider when looking at plans to make a router table is: "are the plans tested?" Again, it's going to house a power tool, so you don't want theorized sketches, you want plans that someone has built from and that you know are reliable. For this reason, I don't trust most free online plans. You can go to your local library or home improvement store and find a quality book that has working plans, and the publisher requires testing.

Lastly, make sure that your plans have a full cut list of the supplies and tools that you need. Nothing is more annoying that being halfway into a project and having to go back to the hardware store.

Of course, it's impossible to put everything about furniture into just one article. But you can't deny that you've just added to your understanding about furniture, and that's time well spent.
